What is Fearless Dating?

Latter-day Saint (LDS) Singles everywhere are dating, trying to find that special someone to marry for time and all eternity. Some have recently started down that path and have no idea where to begin. Others are still searching, and some LDS Singles who are dating are totally frustrated. And yet, dating will always be the path toward eternal marriage and everlasting joy.

As we interviewed hundreds of LDS single and married people who have participated in effective dating, and read countless articles on the subject of dating, we discovered one key that makes the difference in achieving results. It isn’t some homespun remedy that guarantees instant dating success. Instead, it is a powerful yet simple principle that makes dating for a great marriage not only possible but also full of opportunity. It is confidence. Paul declared, “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recom­pence of reward” (Hebrews 10:35).

We invite you to become a confident, fearless dater. To do so is to embark on a great adventure and pursue your own promised land with optimism, knowing that success doesn’t happen in a single day. The Lord will guide you as you walk with Him in this all-important chapter of your life.

This approach is not for the passive observer. Fearless dating is not a spectator sport. It requires serious effort. The Fearless Dating book is designed particularly for LDS (Mormon) dating and is to be studied one chapter per week, so that you fulfill each commitment before moving on to the next chapter. In each new chapter you will be given a new dating commitment. Fulfill each dating commitment, no matter how awkward it may seem at the time, and you will experience powerful results in dating. And, as a result, you will become a fearless dater!

Who are the Authors?

Chris Deaver has taught youth and young adults at seminaries, EFY, institutes, and firesides throughout the country. He has been published in the New Era and Friend magazines. Chris works as a professional consultant at Dell and co-founded a 501(c)3 non-profit: the International Mentoring Net­work Organization dedicated to mentoring. Prior to that, he served a mission to Peru and then taught in the Missionary Training Center for several years. He also authored the book Know Before You Go. Chris earned a BA in anima­tion, and an MBA from Brigham Young University. He is a triathlete, and enjoys studying the martial arts and drawing ridiculous cartoons. He loves spending time with his wife, Julia, and their two-year old son.

Julia Deaver dedicates her time to being a mom to her wonderful son, Danny, bringing out the true beauty of women, and serving in the Church. Since completing a full-time mission to the Dominican Republic, she has been involved in the Young Women’s organization in various capacities and has also taught in firesides. She authors an ongoing magazine column for young adult women titled “Beauty on a Budget” and the “deaver daily” blog. Julia graduated with a degree in marriage, family, and human development from BYU-Idaho, and is a trained master esthetician. She enjoys perform­ing extreme beauty makeovers for young adult women, and for her husband whenever possible. In addition, Julia has given humanitarian service in vari­ous places, including an orphanage in Ecuador.

Don McCartney served a full-time mission in Germany, graduated from BYU with a BS in finance, and has worked for several years in the pharmaceutical industry. He has adventured through many cities and states throughout his life including San Jose, Boston, and Washington, DC, and knocked doors throughout the greater Provo, Utah area to interact with and interview young adult singles. He has been featured in publications including The Daily Universe. Don has served in the Church as a Sunday School president, in Elders Quorum presidencies, and a Ward Activities Committee member. He has excelled in several competitive sports including Church basketball and broom hockey.
